The call

Yesterday before noon I was working from home at my desk in my living room. I was on the phone with a patient. As I looked to the left my cell phone was lighting up. Birch Health Care. My heart went to my throat.

I asked the patient if I could put them on hold and answered the cell.

It was Kelsey from Birch. Mom took a rapid decline. Her heart rate is really fast and other vitals low. She won't eat or drink and when kelsey tried to give her meds she clenched her teeth. Should she go to jospital? Kelsey asked me. YeS of COURSE! I replied.

She asked what hospital and I said WDH. WENTWORTH DOUGLAS.

I finished with the patient on the phone called my supervisor Julie and logged out.

I got my shoes on and called Colleen and Dave.

I drove to WDH and the ER was packed. I told registration my mom was enrolled from Birch.i sat in waiting room with people lined up standing in hallway. 

About 20 minutes later registration called mom's name. They said she never showed up. I went out to where I had cell service and called Frisbie. They said mom was there. The paramedics were concerned about something they saw on EKG so took her to nearest hospital.

I called Colleen who said she'd call Birch. I told her never-ending a transfer I'm driving back to Rochester.

When I got there and could go back mom was in room 17.

They were doing labs. Mom could talk to me and said she hurt all over.

They took labs and she said she was cold so I got her a heated blanket. 

DR Potter came in and said she had a UTI and her blood count was really low. He said he thought she had a GI bleed. She also had a UTI. He said she couldn't afford to lose anyone blood. He did a rectal exam and said it was very dark. He ordered a CT and I signed the blood transfusion paperwork.

I was texting everyone. Colleen the kiss Dave. Dave left work to come see me. He also brought a charger for my phone.

We sat in t he waiting room awhile but I said I wanted to go back with mom and he went to pick up my repaired engagement ring.

Doctor Potter said mom would be transferred to Portsmouth hospital. Frisbie did not have staf for emergency surgery if needed over the weekend and mom may need colonoscopy and endoscopy to locate bleed.

I asked for wDH but the didn't have available beds.

I sat and waited with mom. She was going in and out of sleep. They took her to CT and back. Amber her nurse came in and was going to change bedding and put catheter in. She got help for that . Mom asked for Tylenol and water. She was on her 2nd bag of blood. I helped hold mom's head as they changed her because it was pressed against the railing of the bed.

I left and asked them to call me hen she was moved.
